Guardians of the Reef #3
Guardianes del Arrecife, a community-led brigade, is at the forefront of coral restoration efforts in the Mexican Caribbean. One of their leads is Arcelia Romero, their initiative rescues coral fragments and colonies affected by storms and hurricanes, monitors reef health, and collaborates with prestigious institutions such as Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, CONANP, UNAM, ECOSUR, and CRIAP of IMIPAS to ensure scientific rigor in our work.
As they work tirelessly to restore and protect these vital ecosystems, they are eager to scale their efforts through the integration of advanced monitoring technologies. With your support, they aim to acquire essential tools such as drones for capturing aerial images and assessing reef conditions, along with temperature measuring devices to study the effects of ocean warming. These technologies will not only enhance their conservation work but also allow them to share valuable data, expand scientific knowledge, and strengthen the Guardians of the Reef network.
